About the Game
Far Cry is a FPS from Crytek German cuisine, set on an unnamed tropical archipelago (artwork were Maldives in the Indian Ocean). The player takes on muscleman Jack Carver, a guy "serious sam's" type, who apparently chose to leave the wrong destination and wants away - along with newfound soul mate - the shortest way out.
It is interesting that originally these were mere tech-demo presenting the power of nVidia cards. The game is paradoxically soon became popular not only for unmatched visual and well-optimized page (as it was as Half-Life 2 and Doom III postponed again, this is the first full use DX9 at all), but for a very intuitive AI that does not lose the thread or an extremely large islands - play Far Cry at higher levels in the given conditions, a truly unique experience. Average marketing especially in the West did not bring Crytek adequate commercial success.
Far Cry garnered spiritual sequel in the form of Crysis from the same study. In 2008 released sequel, Far Cry 2, but already developed Ubisoft, who took over the rights to the brand.
In 2008, based on the play made into a film with the same title.
