WarCraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal is an expansion pack for the popular real-time strategy game WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness. It was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released in 1996.
The expansion adds two new campaigns to the game, each with eight new missions, which continue the story of WarCraft II. It also introduces new hero characters, units, structures, and tilesets, which significantly expand the game’s content.
Beyond the Dark Portal focuses on the orcs’ attempts to reopen the Dark Portal, a magical gateway between the worlds of Azeroth and Draenor. The human and elven forces must stop the orcs from reopening the portal and prevent them from unleashing a new wave of destruction on Azeroth.
In addition to the single-player campaigns, Beyond the Dark Portal includes new multiplayer maps and game modes, such as a “King of the Hill” mode, where players must defend a central location from their opponents.
The game received positive reviews for its expanded content, improved graphics, and continued excellent gameplay. Beyond the Dark Portal is still considered a classic real-time strategy game and has become an essential part of the WarCraft franchise’s history.
